Family Fun at The Portland Rose Festival – Kicking Off This Friday!

A cherished tradition since 1907, The Portland Rose Festival officially kicks off this Friday, May 23, 2025, at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Spanning a month through June 22, this spirited celebration offers an abundance of family-friendly events, parades, and cultural experiences that highlight Portland's rich heritage.

Highlight Events

  • Opening Night Fireworks (May 23):
    Celebrate the start of the Rose Festival with a spectacular fireworks display over the Willamette River. The show begins after dark and can be enjoyed from Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
  • CityFair (May 23–26, May 30–June 1, June 6–8):
    Located at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, CityFair features carnival rides, games, live entertainment, food vendors, and more. Admission is $12 for ages 7 and up; kids 6 and under enter free with an adult.
  • Starlight Parade (May 31, 8:15 PM):
    A beloved nighttime parade filled with glowing floats, dancers, and marching bands lighting up the streets of downtown Portland.
  • Junior Parade (June 4):
    A celebration of Portland’s youth, this parade features kids in costume, decorated bikes, and local school groups marching through the Hollywood District.
  • Fleet Week (June 4–9):
    U.S. and Canadian naval ships dock along the waterfront for public tours and meet-and-greets with sailors.
  • Grand Floral Parade (June 7, 10:00 AM):
    The signature event of the festival, showcasing breathtaking all-floral floats, marching bands, equestrian units, and more.
  • Dragon Boat Races (June 8):
    Colorful dragon boats race across the Willamette River in a thrilling competition that celebrates teamwork and cultural tradition.
  • Milk Carton Boat Race (June 22):
    A quirky Portland favorite, this event features handmade boats built entirely out of recycled milk cartons.
